Business Process Re-engineering

Business Process Re-Engineering is a set of logically related tasks performed to achieve a defined business outcome. A set of processes forms a business system the way in which a business unit, or a collection of units, carries out its business. Processes have two important characteristics:

  • They have common customers; that is processes have defined business outcomes, and there are recipients of the outcomes;
  • They cross organisational boundaries; that is they normally occur across or between organisational subunits. Processes are generally independent of formal organisational design.

The benefits of business process re-engineering (BPR) are that it looks into the current business operations and seeks different methods how to improve the overall performance by doing more with less. The central theme of any BPR exercise is the customer who is always placed at the heart of the organisation development.

The services under BPR include:

  • Develop business vision and process objectives;
  • Identify process to be re-designed;
  • Understand and measure existing processes;
  • Identify new IT levers or other innovation requirements;
  • Design and build prototype of the process.
